Friday night, we went out to celebrate a successful week at work and when we asked friends where to eat, we got endless recommendations. Of course, trying to make reservations at Friday at noon for a Friday night dinner, is almost impossible in NYC. Finally I stumbled up Beauty & Essex, which had one availability at 6:15. After reading a few reviews and looking at a few photos, I booked it! When we arrived, we walk through what looked to be pond shop. As we walked through the little shop, we opened a large door that led into a dark restaurant. At the entrance there was a beauty spiral staircase and hung a long vintage chandelier. They sat us at our table, the booth was a black leather tufted booth, that lined the walls. It was gorgeous! The entire restaurant was beautiful. Even the bathroom, which had a small bar and seating area.
The food is what really won us over. It's a tapas restaurant, so they recommend sharing 5-7 small dishes. We started off with the Tuna Poke Wonton Tacos, moved onto the Kale & Apple salad (which almost won for best dish of the night). Then we had Grilled Cheese, Smoked Bacon & Tomato Soup Dumplings (this dish ties with the Kale Salad) and Lobster Mac & Cheese. As our entree we had a Hamburger with Salt & Vinegar Fries (the fries were our #1 pick). Then we managed to have, not one, but two desserts! Highly recommended by waiter, we had the S'mores Tart and the Black Bottomed Butterscotch Pot de Creme, which is one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Needless to say, we were satisfied when we left the restaurant.
We had such an amazing experience at this restaurant, I just had to share with my readers. So for anyone who wants to try a great restaurant in NYC, I'd highly recommend Beauty & Essex. I promise you won't be disappointed.
I'm curious, any of my readers been to Beauty & Essex? Did you have the same experience?
