Not Your Typical Work Suit | Blue Pantsuit

One of my fashion icons, Miroslava Duma, wore a blue Stella McCartney pantsuit last year during London Fashion week. Like so many of her outfits, she's influenced my style and encouraged me to be more open-minded to trying new trends. What so many people don't know about Miroslava is that she is a very petite woman. Although she stands a mere 5'0", she's able to pull off so many trends that you'd normally see on runway models. She makes trends work with her body and her style.

For me, it's all about finding what works with your body, style and budget. As much as I'd love to have a tailored designer pantsuit, my Zara suit is just as stylish.

Blue Stripes :: Zara Midi & Cinnabar

Hi everyone! So excited to post today's outfit. Yesterday Matt and I went to the Garment District and then headed to the Chelsea area to explore. The Garment District is great place for someone who loves crafts and sewing. There was inspiration all over the place! Our first stop was Bead World and got so many great ideas for statement necklaces and bracelets.  This winter when I'm stuck inside, I'll be spending a lot of time with my list of DIY projects.

After the Garment Districts we headed to Chelsea Pier. There was so much going on in the area.  We stumbled up Chelsea Market and had a great time exploring. I also found a great sample sale. I spent 10 minutes in the sample sale and picked up two work dresses and a plaid coat. I've learned to be an efficient shopper when I'm with Matt.  After the Market we went to the High Line. The High Line Park is a 1-mile park built on a former elevated New York Central Railroad. It's such a beautiful green getaway in the middle of Manhattan.

In the mist of all of the exploring, we found a pier door that matches with my Zara midi. I loved wearing my Coach boots with the Zara skirt. The graphic tee made the outfit casual and perfect for strolling around New York City.

shoe swap!

Top: Express, Pants: Zara, Flats: Vince Camuto, Heels: Zara, Zebra bracelet: Target

After moving to New York and having a 3 minute walk to work, I was convinced that I'd be able to walk in my heels to the office.  However, I quickly realized that a pair of flats can get me to work faster AND they save my nice heels from the concrete and dirt in the city.  Very few woman walk to work in heels.  Most are wearing flip flops or a cute pair of sandals.  A good friend told me, you'll quickly become a bag lady in New York.  You'll need your purse and then an extra bag for everything else (extra pair of shoes, umbrella, makeup, water, etc).

I also wanted to bring an element of reality to blogging.  Typically when Matt and I take photos for my blog, I bring a pair of flats.  In most blogs the outfit seems so effortless, I beg to differ...at some point a pair of shoes were swapped out!

I found this great pair of Vince Camuto slippers at Nordstoms, they work great to walk to work.  They are very professional and super comfy!

april flowers bring may colors!

Top: Michael Kors (TJ Maxx), Skirt, TJ Maxx, Shoes: Zara, Bag: Coach, Sunnies: D&G
This week I pulled out all my spring/summer clothes! Several things I forgot I owned.  Living in SF, space is vaulable and my heavy coats were taking up a lot of real estate in my household.  The coats got packed away and pulled out all the bright colors! Yippie!

Today's outfit wasn't pulled from boxes, but I got the skirt and shirt from TJ Maxx.  One of my favorite stores.  You can typically find me there on my lunch break.  I loooove getting a good bargain and I love looking at the new trends for the season.  TJ Maxx does a great job keeping up on trends.  If you have a few extra bucks burning a whole in your pocket, head over to TJ Maxx and pick up a right new skirt for summer!
